Our History

Established in 1945 as the Tile Council of America (TCA), the Tile Council was created with the sole purpose of expanding the ceramic tile market in the United States. TCA's research laboratory has developed and patented many innovative installation materials which have improved ceramic tile installation.

In 2003, the TCA became the Tile Council of North America (TCNA) to reflect its membership expansion to all of North America - Canada, Mexico and the United States.

The Tile Council is recognized for its leadership role in promoting the use of ceramic tile and in developing North American and international industry standards. Additionally, towards the goal of expanding the ceramic tile market in North America, TCNA regularly conducts independent research and product testing, works with regulatory and trade agencies, offers professional training, and publishes installation guidelines, tile standards, economic reports, and promotional literature.

TCNA is a trade association representing manufacturers of ceramic tile, tile installation materials, tile equipment, raw materials, and other tile-related products.

TCNA has been a strong supporter of Tile Partners for Humanity since its inception in 2003. TPFH is the tile industry’s charitable organization - it is a partnership between the tile industry and Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit organization working to eliminate substandard housing around the world. TCNA members provide tile, setting materials, tools, floor preparation materials, cleaners, sealers, and many other materials manufactured in North America for Habitat for Humanity building projects and other projects through TPFH. Through the generous assistance of the labor community and NTCA (National Tile Contractors Association), TPFH also provides labor and installation training to Habitat affiliates interested in building with tile. TCNA’s Executive Director serves on the TPFH board of directors.
